We all know that South Africa has a lot of hidden treasures. One of its most famous – ironically – is Sun City.
If you have never been to South Africa or even better, never been to the North West province’s Sun City, here is why this destination should be on your bucket list.
Sun City is home to two golf courses; the Gary Player Golf course and The Lost City Golf Course. Needless to say, the 7000 metre Gary Player Golf Course was designed by golfing legend Gary Player and is considered one of the world’s longest golf courses. This course is an 18-hole walking-only par-72 championship course. The likes of Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Els and Tiger Woods have played at this course.
The Lost City Golf Course is home to a 13th hole frequented by 38 Nile crocodiles. This desert-style 18-hole, 72-par course stretches 28 000 square metres
Sun City is probably most famous for its casino experience. With a smorgasbord of slots and table games, every visitor can try their luck. The 33 tables operate from 1pm until the early morning hours of the next day. The casino also has coinless smart card machines that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Denominations for these range from 2c to R100.
Sun City has its own man-made beach called Valley of Waves. This facility offers adventure for the adrenaline junkies and relaxation for the romantics. With water features such as daring slides and lazy river rafting, this is the closest you will get to the real deal. Food can be bought from several vendors or visitors can choose to have a drink at a bar overseeing the beach.
Apart from the above-mentioned Sun City offers, among many other activities; the fastest zip-slide experience in the world, 4×4 quad biking through the game park, restaurants and bars, wildlife encounters, conference venues, pools, accommodation and so much more.
